Complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) is a poorly understood condition where a person experiences persistent severe and debilitating pain. Although most cases of CRPS are triggered by an injury, the resulting pain is much more severe and long-lasting than normal. The pain usually only affects 1 limb, but it can sometimes spread to other parts of the body. The skin of the affected body part can become so sensitive that a slight touch, bump or even a change in temperature can cause intense pain. Affected areas can also become swollen, stiff or undergo fluctuating changes in colour or temperature. CRPS often gradually improves over time. But some people with CRPS experience pain for many years.

  Myalgic encephalomyelitis, also called chronic fatigue syndrome or ME/CFS, is a long-term condition with a wide range of symptoms. The most common symptom is extreme tiredness.  ME/CFS can affect anyone, including children. It's more common in women, and tends to develop between your mid-20s and mid-40s.

A migraine is usually a moderate or severe headache felt as a throbbing pain on 1 side of the head. Many people also have symptoms such as feeling sick, being sick and increased sensitivity to light or sound. Migraine is a common health condition, affecting around 1 in every 5 women and around 1 in every 15 men. They usually begin in early adulthood. There are several types of migraine, including - migraine with aura – where there are specific warning signs just before the migraine begins, such as seeing flashing lights - migraine without aura – the most common type, where the migraine happens without the specific warning signs- migraine aura without headache, also known as silent migraine – where an aura or other migraine symptoms are experienced, but a headache does not develop. Some people have migraines frequently, up to several times a week. Other people only have a migraine occasionally. It's possible for years to pass between migraine attacks.

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is the name for a group of lung conditions that cause breathing difficulties. It includes emphysema (damage to the air sacs in the lungs) and chronic bronchitis (long-term inflammation of the airways). COPD is a common condition that mainly affects middle-aged or older adults who smoke. Many people do not realise they have it. The breathing problems tend to get gradually worse over time and can limit your normal activities, although treatment can help keep the condition under control.

Pelvic pain is felt in the lower part of your tummy. The type of pain varies, and it may be sudden and severe (acute pelvic pain) or last 6 months or longer (chronic pelvic pain). Pelvic pain varies. It may affect a small area around your pelvis (your lower tummy) or the whole area. Types of pelvic pain include: a sharp, stabbing or burning pain that happens suddenly, a pain that comes on slowly but does not go away,  a dull or heavy ache, or feeling of pressure, a twisted or knotted feeling, a cramping or throbbing pain, which may come and go or pain only when you’re doing something, like exercising, having sex, or peeing.

Ehlers-Danlos syndromes (EDS) are a group of rare inherited conditions that affect connective tissue. Connective tissues provide support in skin, tendons, ligaments, blood vessels, internal organs and bones. Joint hypermobility syndrome is when you have very flexible joints and it causes you pain (you may think of yourself as being double-jointed). Symptoms can include an increased range of joint movement (joint hypermobility), stretchy skin, fragile skin that breaks or bruises easily. EDS can affect people in different ways. For some, the condition is relatively mild, while for others their symptoms can be disabling. The different types of EDS are caused by faults in certain genes that make connective tissue weaker. Depending on the type of EDS, the faulty gene may have been inherited from 1 parent or both parents. Sometimes the faulty gene is not inherited, but occurs in the person for the first time. Some of the rare, severe types can be life threatening.

Epilepsy is a common condition that affects the brain and causes frequent seizures. Seizures are bursts of electrical activity in the brain that temporarily affect how it works. They can cause a wide range of symptoms. Epilepsy can start at any age, but usually starts either in childhood or in people over 60. It's often lifelong, but can sometimes get slowly better over time.

Fibromyalgia, also called fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS), is a long-term condition that causes pain all over the body.  As well as widespread pain, people with fibromyalgia may also have increased sensitivity to pain, extreme tiredness (fatigue), muscle stiffness, difficulty sleeping, problems with mental processes (known as "fibro-fog"), such as problems with memory and concentration, headaches and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) (a digestive condition that causes stomach pain and bloating). Although there's currently no cure for fibromyalgia, there are treatments to help relieve some of the symptoms and make the condition easier to live with.

Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a painful, chronic, scarring skin condition that leads to the formation of lumps (nodules), abscesses, and draining channels in the skin. It often affects certain areas of the body including the armpits, breasts, groins and genitals, and bottom. The exact cause is unknown, but the disorder involves inflammation around the hair follicles in these areas. There is an association with smoking, being overweight, and other medical problems including arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease, and diabetes mellitus. HS has a significant impact on patients’ quality of life.

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a common condition that affects the digestive system. It causes symptoms like stomach cramps, bloating, diarrhoea and constipation. These tend to come and go over time, and can last for days, weeks or months at a time. It's usually a lifelong problem. The exact cause is unknown – it's been linked to things like food passing through your gut too quickly or too slowly, oversensitive nerves in your gut, stress and a family history of IBS.

Rheumatoid arthritis is a long-term condition that causes pain, swelling and stiffness in the joints. The condition usually affects the hands, feet and wrists.  There may be periods where symptoms become worse, known as flare-ups or flares.  A flare can be difficult to predict, but with treatment it's possible to decrease the number of flares and minimise or prevent long-term damage to the joints.  Some people with rheumatoid arthritis also experience problems in other parts of the body, or more general symptoms such as tiredness and weight loss.

Scoliosis is where the spine twists and curves to the side. It can affect people of any age, from babies to adults, but most often starts in children aged 10 to 15. Scoliosis can improve with treatment, but it is not usually a sign of anything serious and treatment is not always needed if it's mild. Signs of scoliosis include a visibly curved spine, leaning to one side, uneven shoulders, a should or hip sticking out, the ribs sticking out on one side, clothes not fitting well. Some people with scoliosis may also have back pain. This is usually more common in adults with the condition.

Still’s disease is a rare type of arthritis that is thought to be autoummune or autoinflammatory. It has similar symptoms to systemic-onset juvenile idiopathic arthritis -- fever, rash and joint pain. It begins in adulthood, so it's compared to rheumatoid arthritis. Inflammation may affect a few joints at first. Over time, more joints may be involved. Some people may have only one bout of the illness followed by lasting remission (no visible symptoms), while others develop chronic arthritis. The disease affects men and women equally, usually young adults between the ages of 16 and 35. This rare type of inflammatory arthritis is marked by fever, rash and joint pain.

Undifferentiated connective tissue disease (UCTD) is a condition in which a patient's symptoms don't quite meet the "criteria" (the markers or indicators doctors use to make a diagnosis) of a well-defined connective tissue disease, such as rheumatoid arthritis (RA), lupus or scleroderma. A person with UCTD may have one or more of the symptoms found in these types of connective tissue diseases, but not enough of them to make the diagnosis for any one of them. The lab tests for these diseases may even be negative (suggesting the disease is not present) in patients with UCTD. Some symptoms include arthralgia (joint achiness), arthritis (joints that are swollen and hot, often with redness of the overlying skin), rashes, usually on the face, which can worsen in the sun, hair loss, raynaud's phenomenon (color changes in your hands and feet in response to cold), ulcers inside the mouth, dryness of the eyes (due to decreased tears) or mouth (due to decreased saliva), low-grade fever (usually under 100o F), leukopenia (decreased numbers of white cells in your blood) and anemia (decreased numbers of red blood cells in your blood).
